Electrolytes at the nanoscale

Properties of electrolytes at the nanoscale differ drastically from ones of macroscopic systems. We build field theory to describe properties of electrolytes nanoconfined. We use both classical and quantum simulations as inputs to extract essential ingredients of the theory and to parametrize them.


Active biological membranes

Many cellular organelles are membrane-bound structures with complex membrane composition and shape. Their shapes have been observed to depend on the metabolic state of the organelle. We model these coupled systems using reaction-diffusion equations and generalized Helfrich models. We apply these models to the description of mitochondria.
