The Center of Physics is perched above Les Houches, a small Village in the French Alps very close to Chamonix and the Mont Blanc. About three kilometers from the center of the village at an altitude of 1150 m the Physics School is located in a group of chalets surrounded by meadows and woods. Established in 1951, it developed into a well equipped and modern school facility including a small library, a 70 seat auditorium, internet connection and a very pleasant environment.

The Physics School in Les Houches is affiliated to the Université Joseph Fourier of Grenoble and to the Institut National Polytechnique de Grenoble, and is supported by the Ministère de l'Education Nationale, de la Recherche et de la Technologie (MENRT), the Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique (CNRS) and the Direction des Sciences de la Matière of the Commissariat à l'Energie Atomique (CEA).
